The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority () has published a UAS Flight Safety Information Bulletin in order to inform operators and users of Unmanned Aircraft Systems () about safe and lawful drone operations across .The bulletin has already been distributedto over 12,000 domestic and foreign UAV operators in Greece, with the goal of quickly and broadly distributing vital information for safe operational usage. Especially during the summer period, given the growing frequency of wildfires, particularly in forest areas, HCAA advises that using UAVs in fire-affected areas is illegal unless prior permission and coordination with the appropriate authorities have been secured. Uncontrolled drone activity can seriously interfere with aerial firefighting missions and endanger lives.Particular care is also required in locations with high local winds, which can significantly alter the speed and direction of a fire's spread, increasing the risk to ground and aircraft firefighting troops. The HCAA has already legalized the use of UAVs for fire prevention and detection, which are operated by Civil Protection at roughly 150 places across Greece, significantly improving the prompt detection and reaction to fires. Within the EUSOME Project, our project partner's initiative highlights the importance of coordinated actions between authorities, industry, and operators as key enablers for operational safety, and responsible UAS integration within the European drone ecosystem.HCAA encourages all UAV operators and users to thoroughly read the Information Bulletin and consistently execute the instructions and recommendations being contained, therefore contributing to increased safety and environmental protection. https://lnkd.in/gBmiGfziEUSOME Project partners :KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence, Hellenic U-space Institute, Athena Research Center, Hellenic Ministry of Digital Governance, Cyprus Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, Hellenic Drones S.A., Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, Aviomania Aircraft, GRNET - Greek Research & Technology Network, Cyprus Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Adrestia R&D, Centrum Badań Kosmicznych Polskiej Akademii Nauk, SocialTech Lab, Institute Mihajlo Pupin, EPIRUS - Perifereia Ipeirou, and Mediterranean Adventure Ltd.
