Biography

Dr. Evangelos Vlachos is a Tenured Researcher (Researcher C) at the Industrial Systems Institute (ISI) of ATHENA RC, where he leads a research group on Joint Communication, Control, and Sensing. His research interests include Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC), UAV swarm coordination and U-Space resilience, and Scientific Machine Learning (deep unfolding), with a focus on bridging fundamental research with real-world validation in 6G networks and Cyber-Physical Systems.

He has authored over 47 publications — including articles in IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE JSTSP, and Proceedings of the Royal Society A — accumulating more than 1,100 citations. His work on graph-based matrix completion received the World’s FIRST 10K Platinum Best Paper Award in 2017.

As Principal Investigator, he has secured over €850,000 in competitive and industry funding, including the Horizon Europe Excellence Hub EUSOME and the industry project SPLASH. He maintains active collaborations with Hellenic U-Space Industry, Quantum Neural Technologies, and Hellenic Drones, and has previously collaborated with Huawei Technologies France.

He is a member of the EURASIP Technical Area Committee on Signal Processing for Communications and Networking, and serves as a reviewer for major IEEE journals. He currently teaches at the University of Patras and holds a visiting position at the University of Sussex, with previous postdoctoral and lecturing experience at the University of Edinburgh.
